Freedom Found

It is rather rare to find a more organic host for curating a unique experience within a group. Tristan and Ben authentically held and directed this stupendous experience so reassuringly and effortlessly balanced their enthusiasm for spontaneous and bespoke adventure. They will inspire and challenge you; sometimes themselves whilst holding space where you are able to be as you are in the moment. A craft of leadership that evokes true permission to live through all that you encounter when left alone in your mind, cycling up some of the tallest mountains on this planet. It was very much a pleasure to be a test subject for the curation and actualisation of this vision, opening a portal to those who perhaps haven’t yet tapped into their inner warrior.

I joined as a last minute spur of the moment decision to get a better sense of bike packing. Expedition style adventure and type two fun are my safe places. I am not one who travels in groups and found that having to coordinate with others and relaxing into this lent me a beautiful availability to lean into community; creating bonds and memories enriched with friendship. The landscapes of Peru have an inexplicable enchantment cast upon them. From rich green valleys to arid icy glacial plains and thick energetic jungles. Following the twisting of roads and rivers often bypassing intoxicating blue lakes. You will find the wild in yourself and yet feel the comradeship of support from others finding this same wild. I have felt nothing more free than arriving at the top of an Andean pass just below 5000m and soaring down the back side on my bike, racing the glacial rivers down and feeling the spray of chilly waterfalls. The rural air and off-the- beaten-track villages are very unscripted and very hospitable. Having mountain dogs join the pack and howling at the moon with you, to nude swims in fresh ice melt. Sunsets and sunrise your most dependable clock. I found reserves of strength in myself and found a community I never anticipated belonging to. Overcoming altitude and pushing a bike within the space of a few weeks had me so concisely acquainted with the patterns of my breathing, moments of absolute presence, and catching myself smiling on repeat.

The Feels

I wish I could bottle the safety and security you made me feel and sprinkle it on my brekkie every morning and chase it with an enormous glass of the love I felt from the whole group. This trip was so much more than the spectacular rides.

The Real Deal

One word – adventure! This trip took us through country not many gringos get to see at a pace even fewer experience. It felt like a proper adventure with friends – from shopping in flea markets for waterproof gear to asking strangers if we can sleep in their paddock, dangerous traffic, dangerous downhills, flat tyres, spanglish, and riding from snowcapped freeze-your-fingers-off mountains to the sweat-your-ass-off rainforest. The freedom of having everything you need strapped to your bike and choosing the route as you go as a team because there is no set finish line. Tristan and Ben’s desire to make this as challenging as possible while staying as cool and smiley as can be. To watch them encounter obstacles and remain smiling was inspiring. This was an epic adventure first and foremost with amazing scenery and challenges and then an opportunity, if you’ll allow it, to do some deep inner work on the long road miles, cold tent nights and deep conversations. After going through this trip, I feel confident to ride solo in South America or across Australia.
